There are numerous other photo opportunities throughout the hotel, including the life-size gingerbread home with its gingerbread people, several supersized snowmen, including Frosty, and all of the enormous beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
The ornaments on the centerpiece tree in the Delta Atrium are the size of soccer balls.
3. The BIG Nativity
We timed our visit to get the full effect of the dramatic, larger-than-life outdoor nativity set up on the Magnolia Lawn, replete with a nativity narrative played on speakers.
You must go outside to see this, but braving the chill for a few minutes is well worth it because the lawn has a beautiful holiday light display.
We believed that the tens of thousands of white lights that adorned the trees at the entrance to the magnolia forest were our favorite of all the displays.
This entrance is also the starting point for horse-drawn carriage rides, and my group relished seeing the horses.
4. Piano And Carols In The Magnolia lobby
The roaring fires in the two enormous fireplaces in the Magnolia Lobby were a welcome sight after our frigid outdoor lawn and nativity display excursion.
It was enjoyable to sit (or stand) in front of the fireplace and chant familiar Christmas carols along with the engaging pianist, Frankie Staton, who plays in the lobby most evenings. Fond of Christmas carols, she is anxious to fulfill requests.
5. WSM Radio Live
Our children were too small to comprehend and appreciate that the WSM radio broadcasts are live from the hotel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the WSM studio adjacent to the Magnolia lobby. We stopped by to greet Nashville Today host Devon O’Day and her guests, and even received a shout-out during our visit. It is a fun opportunity for adults and elder children to view a live broadcast outside the window.
6. Christmas Fountain Shows
Free synchronized light, water, and music performances are presented every night in the 4.5-acre Delta Atrium. “Sounds of the Season” is performed at 6 and 8 p.m., while “Brightest Star” is performed at 7 and 9 p.m.
This performance can be viewed from almost any location in the atrium, and there is also informal seating on steps, walls, and benches.
7. Ice Skating Show
If you wish to ice skate, you must pay $17.99. However, admission to a brief ice skating performance is free. The hotel’s indoor ice rink is located in Holiday Halls on the lower level of the convention space, and each day there are two seven-minute performances featuring six professional ice skaters entitled “Winter Fantasy” and “Sounds of Christmas.” Check the website for times as they differ daily. We missed the performances, but our children enjoyed watching the amateur skaters perform on the ice.
